Journeys from around the world

Photos_For_Book_Cover_10At the end of the Summer term the EAL department took a group of Year 9 students to visit Holbeach Primary School.  They delivered a presentation and varios workshops around the theme of ‘Journeys’.

Our students put on a great show and the workshops were fantastic!

Year 5 students had a chance to learn some basic Polish phrases, design their own henna tattoos, learn to write simple phrases in Mandarin and try out some steps of a Sri Lankan dance.  Conisborough College students were very confident, organised and professional whilst leading the workshops and the Year 5 students loved them!

IMGP5655Year 5 students had a chance to learn some basic Polish phrases, design their own henna tattoos, learn to write simple phrases in Mandarin and try out some steps of a Sri Lankan dance.  Conisborough College students were very confident, organised and professional whilst leading the workshops and the Year 5 students loved them!

The highlight of the event for the Year 5 students was Liyi and her Mandarin workshop.  Liyi is usually a quiet student, but as leader of her workshop, she was very confident and entertaining, wowing the Year5 students.  Over 80% of the Year 5 students chose her workshop s their favourite.  Well done Liyi!

IMGP5595As part of this project, our students wrote stories of their journeys from their home countries to London and to Conisborough College.  Students shared their feelings about leaving home and the difficulties of settling into a new country and a new school.

These stories are very beautiful, informative and moving.

Here are some which have been published.  You can also find them in our school library.
