Gifted & Talented Puzzle Day

In February, our Gifted and Talented students were met by representatives from the Happy Puzzle Company who challenged the students to complete as many mind-bending puzzles as possible within an hour.

100_0944Year 7 students started the day off by welcoming Year 5 students from Torridon Primary School, who came along to work alongside them.  They all needed fast thinking and good team work skills when tackling the piranha, shape and cuboid tasks.

Mrs Mears was really impressed by how well the students communicated and cooperated with each other.  Our thanks goes to Torridon Primary School for being such good sports.

100_0939The Year 8 Gifted & Talented group made amazing domino rallies.  Tension really did fill the air as students had only 12 minutes to create an interesting shape with as many dominos as possible.  Extra marks were awarded for incorporating bridges and curves.

“It was really brilliant to see so many students working together on one task” said Ms Enstone from Conisborough.

100_0916The top puzzlers of the day were the Year 9 team, who raced through the conundrums.  The competitive spirit was certainly present as the boys tried to out-puzzle the girls!

The Happy Puzzle Company specialise in educational games that develop thinking skills, team work and communication skills.

The programme also encourages students to raise their own expectations of what they can achieve.  Mrs Mears was so impressed by the resources, that she has ordered a range of games for use in tutor time.
