Seven of our Gifted and Talented students had the chance to visit the BBC Television Centre on Wednesday 16 March. They recorded a piece for BBC Breakfast on Smart Phones.
First, we had a meeting with a producer, two cameramen and a sound engineer. We discussed our ideas as a group before planning the news story and thinking about questions to pose in our interviews.
Next we had to plan our camera angles for the interviews and practise our questions before we interviewed two technology experts.
For the next interview we travelled to the Westfield Shopping Centre in Central London. We filmed on location at a Carphone Warehouse store. In the store we could get lots of shots of the different types of smart phones on offer.
Finally, we returned to the television centre to film the links between the adverts and our voiceovers. We had to memorise lots of lines to do this, which made us realise how hard it must be for real news readers.
To say thank you for being excellent presenters, the BBC then gave a tour of their studios. We saw ANton Du Beke from ‘Strictly Come Dancing’; Huw Edwards from the News and N-Dubz performing live for Comic Relief. It was a fantastic end to an exhausting day.
