AleshaDixonOn Thursday 11 March, 8 students represented Conisborough College at the National News Day, held at the City Learning Centre in Lewisham.

The National News day was a live event and some of the team managed to get a live radio interview with Alesha Dixon on BBC Radio 4.

Their intense questioning led to Alesha revealing that she would have liked to have become a teacher if she wasn’t a singer.  While this was going on the rest of the team busily gathered news for their live television broadcast and edited film footage of news they gathered on the previous day.

The interviewees handled the interview process with amazing professionalism, which some of the BBC crew commented on.  Mark Thompson from the ‘Politics Show’ said he could not believe the speed and accuracy with which the students were producing the news.  This was no suprising as just the day before, 5 intrepid reporters left school and went to the ‘Move It’ exhibition in South Kensington to create a pre-recorded televised news package with dance group ‘Flawless’ who are starring in the new 3D dance flick ‘Street Dance’.

Students overcame their nerves and excitement to create a strikingly professional outside broadcast, and even danced with ‘Flawless’. Steve Walker from the BBC camera crew said “The way the students approached the project was amazing, their delivery of the interview was both engaging and professional”.

Flawless have since asked if they can put a recording of the interview on their website.

There were only 8 student places for the final Newsday and this led to some very tough choices being made.  The final 8 were:

  • Hayley Huynh
  • Cara Robotham
  • Olaiton Odubiyi
  • Adrian Kusiak
  • Sarah Mwathunga
  • Kamisha Morris
  • Randy Agyeman-Amoateng
  • Shi-Nar Burke

The English department would like to say a huge thank you to the students involved, they produced some spectacular work, we were really impressed at the ability of the whole Year group.  Well done guys, your dedication and hard work made us proud.
